Since 1972 Stubbies has been outfitting Australian students with a comprehensive uniform range from the classroom to sporting fields. From a humble beginning of short shorts Stubbies has expanded to include a complete range of styles of shorts and shirts for men, and shirts and schoolwear for boys and girls.
The Stubbies brand was established by clothing manufacturer Edward Fletcher and Co. More than 750,000 pairs of Stubbies were sold across Australia in that first year. Based on this outstanding success the company later changed its name to Stubbies. Nearly 40 years later most Australians still have a soft spot for these iconic shorts.
Stubbies has become part of Australian culture so much so that it has entered Australasian slang vocabulary, referred to in the Australian Macquarie Dictionary as "Short shorts of tough material for informal wear".
